The first Golden Chick restaurant opened in San Marcos, Texas, in 1967 under the name Golden Fried Chicken. It became a franchised chain in 1972. The name of the brand was changed to Golden Chick in 1996, and today, most of the restaurant’s units are concentrated in Texas and the southern U.S.
